PTE Listening -- HIGHLIGHT CORRECT SUMMARY -- Scoring Technique

PTE Listening -- HIGHLIGHT CORRECT SUMMARY -- Scoring Technique

This section would be a cakewalk for those who watch a couple of English movies every now and then. People who are not that comfortable with foreign accents might find this section a bit difficult.

You would be assessed on your ability to listen to a recorded speech and select the most appropriate summary from the available 4 to 5 answer options. You also do a fair bit of reading here, and hence it assesses your reading skills as well.

  • You will have 10 crucial seconds to quickly go through all the answer options and understand the context of the passage.
  • Focus, focus and focus. Try to understand the speaker’s frame of mind.
  • Eliminating 2 options would not be a difficult task as almost every multiple choice question has 2 irrelevant answer options. Do that as quickly as possible.
  • There would be 2 close options to choose from. But remember that only one of these 2 options would be a complete summary and not just a portion of the speech.
  • Try to remember the important keywords; the complete summary would have most of the keywords.
  • Do not assume anything or add to what the speaker mentions.
  • The ideal time within which you should select the correct answer option is 10-12 seconds after the recording stops. One more recorded speech is waiting to be played to you.
  • No negative marking so do not leave the question unanswered. Guess wisely and proceed.
