LAST MINUTE TIPS for the PTE Academic test of English language

Last minute tips for the PTE Academic test

Just few hours left for your PTE Academic? Not sure on what to do in order to get a 79+ score....

For sure you cannot afford to make more than 2 mistakes per section if you are eyeing a 79+ score out of 90 in each of the Speaking, Reading, Writing and Listening sections.

Here are the other important things that you need to remember during the test to score well:

  • There will be 10-12 people taking up the exam in a not-so-big room. So be prepared for distractions, especially during the ‘Speaking’ section.
  • Make sure you speak out loud and clear while attempting the questions from the ‘Speaking’ section.
  • If you are a soft-spoken person, I am afraid you’ll be required to raise your voice to some extent. Else your computer’s microphone would not be able to pick your voice clearly.
  • People from various all age-groups take up the PTE, so do not get demoralized. No one would be competing against you as far as the PTE is concerned.
  • It’s okay if you say something irrelevant by mistake. DO NOT stop speaking and just continue speaking loud and clear, and at a decent pace, for the specified time-limit.
  • Coming back to the questions you’ve already attempted/left is not allowed. Do not get stuck to one question and move on to the next one.
  • NEVER exceed the word-limit in response to questions where you would be required to summarize a passage within 70 words (ideal response: approx 55 words) or write an essay in 200 to 300 words (ideal response: approx 225 words).
  • For the ‘Reading’ section, try not to give more than 2.5 minutes per questions (MCQs or Re-order paragraphs).
  • Choose your response wisely. Be informed that few questions like ‘Multiple Choice – Choose Multiple Answers’ etc. do carry negative marks.
  • There might be easier questions at the end of every section (like Fill in the Blanks), so make sure you manage the time properly.
  • Take notes properly and frame complete sentences while handling the ‘Retell Lecture’ questions.
  • Do take that optional 10 minutes break which would be offered before the beginning of the last section. It will help your mind relax a bit.
  • Do not panic even if you get a couple of question wrong. Try to make-up by answering other questions properly.
