PTE Speaking -- Read Aloud

This is one of the easiest types of questions in the PTE Reading section where you can aim to score full marks just by reading a short passage (of up to 60 words) properly. There would be approx 6 to 7 such questions and you would get ample of time (30-40 seconds) to skim through the entire passage and identify the words where you need to be careful while actually recording your response.

Scoring Technique 
  • Use https://dictation.io/ to check if the spelling of the speech-converted-text is correct. This is the best way to improve your pronunciation.
  • Speak clearly at a decent pace so that the computer-algorithm, which records your voice, should be able to distinguish between two consecutive words.
  • The real problem comes when you get a relatively complex word like (revolutionized, Sagittarius, Statistics, Arduous etc.) in between the given passage which is not that commonly used.
  • You need to decide on how 'clear' and ‘loud’ you need to be while reading those words in specific and the entire passage as well.
  • Not everyone can speak perfect English and avoid grammatical mistakes while being really fast. So it is obvious that if you speak either too fast or too slow, you definitely are anxious. Only thing which can help you here is practice.
  • If you incidentally stop speaking for more than 3-seconds, the microphone would turn off for that particular question automatically and you would have no other option but to lose marks on that particular question.
  • You need to learn how to stop appropriately on commas (short pause), semi-colons or full-stops (little bit longer pause).

    For PTE Read Aloud, you need to read a written text aloud.
    The recording status box displays a countdown until the microphone opens. You have 30-40 seconds to prepare, depending on the length of the passage. You hear a short tone. After the tone, start speaking immediately. Do not start speaking before the microphone opens because your voice will not be recorded.

    You should speak clearly. There is no need to rush.

    Finish speaking before the progress bar reaches the end. The word “Recording” changes to “Completed”.

    You are only able to record your response once.

    TIP: If you remain silent for longer than 3 seconds, the recording will stop.

Getting top scores in PTE or IELTS in the 1st attempt itself

Hi Everyone!! I thought of sharing my experience at a high level on how I managed to obtain a so-called ‘superior’ score (79+ each) in the  Pearson Academic Test of English (PTE) . PTE Speaking -- Describe Image -- Scoring Technique You will see a diagram/pie-chart/bar-graph/map etc for 25 seconds. The trick is to understand the image and speak selectively about it within 40 seconds. Be selective. You are not supposed to speak all that you see in 40 seconds. Pick a few key things to speak about, and leave out the rest.  Speak clearly and at a decent pace. Start with describing the heading/subject in one sentence. It would easily take up 4 to 5 seconds if you just rephrase the title at the top of every question. Include what the x-axis and the y-axis represent if it is a bar graph or a line graph.
